8th Central Pay Commission Latest News – September 2026 Update

8th CPC Chandigarh Consultations Concluded: Next Meeting in Bengaluru

The 8th Central Pay Commission (8th CPC) has completed its latest round of consultations in Chandigarh from 16 to 18 September 2026. During these meetings, the Commission interacted with employee organisations, associations, unions and other stakeholders from Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh and received their views on pay, allowances, pension and other service-related matters.

The Chandigarh consultations are part of the Commission’s ongoing nationwide consultation process before it prepares its recommendations on the revision of pay, allowances, pension and other benefits of Central Government employees and pensioners.

Important Demands Raised During Chandigarh Consultation

Various organisations have placed their demands before the 8th CPC. Among the issues reported during the Chandigarh meetings were:

  • Revision of the fitment factor for determining revised pay.
  • Higher annual increment for Central Government employees.
  • Revision of House Rent Allowance (HRA) and other allowances.
  • Improvements in pension and family pension.
  • Revision of pay levels for specific categories of employees.
  • Additional allowances and benefits for employees working in specialised or difficult working conditions.

For example, nursing organisations participating in the Chandigarh consultation reportedly sought Level 10 entry pay for Nursing Officers, a higher fitment factor, an increase in the annual increment, a dedicated night-duty allowance and risk/hardship benefits. These are demands submitted by the organisations and are not recommendations or decisions of the 8th Pay Commission.

Fitment Factor Not Finalised Yet

There is considerable discussion among Central Government employees regarding the likely 8th CPC fitment factor. However, no final fitment factor has been announced by the 8th Central Pay Commission as of September 2026.

Figures such as 2.57, 2.86, 3.00, 3.25 or 3.84 that appear in various reports and employee representations should therefore be treated as examples, calculations or demands, rather than an officially approved fitment factor.

The actual revised pay will become clear only after the Commission completes its examination and submits its recommendations, followed by the Government’s consideration and final decision.

Bengaluru Consultation Scheduled for 7–8 October 2026

After Chandigarh, the next announced state-level visit of the 8th CPC is Bengaluru on 7 and 8 October 2026.

The official 8th CPC website has issued a notice regarding the Bengaluru visit. The deadline for requesting an appointment for this consultation was 18 September 2026.

The Commission is continuing its consultations with employee associations, unions, pensioner organisations and other stakeholders before preparing its final recommendations.

8th CPC Recommendations Are Still Awaited

At present, the 8th CPC has not announced a revised pay matrix, final fitment factor, revised minimum pay, revised pension or final salary increase.

Employees and pensioners should therefore be cautious about social-media messages claiming that a particular fitment factor or salary increase has already been approved.

The Commission was constituted by the Government of India through the notification dated 3 November 2025. The official 8th CPC website confirms that the Commission is examining matters relating to pay, allowances, pension and other benefits.

Regional Stakeholder Consultations

The Commission has officially scheduled regional consultations in Chennai on 7–8 September 2026 and Puducherry on 9 September 2026. Fitment Factor: Important Clarification

Various figures relating to the fitment factor, revised minimum salary and pension revision continue to circulate on social media and YouTube. However, the 8th Central Pay Commission has not officially recommended any fitment factor or new pay matrix. Employees and pensioners should treat such figures as estimates or demands submitted by organisations until the Commission publishes its final recommendations.

The 8th Central Pay Commission is currently in the consultation and data-gathering stage. The Commission was constituted by the Government of India on 3 November 2025 and has been given 18 months to submit its report. Its official website continues to publish notices relating to meetings, stakeholder interactions and regional visits.

Stakeholder Consultations and Regional Visits

The Commission has been holding consultations with employee associations, unions and other stakeholders in different parts of the country. Recent official notices include interactions in Delhi on 7 and 10 August 2026, while visits to Chennai on 7–8 September 2026 and Puducherry on 9 September 2026 have also been announced. The Puducherry and Chennai notices state that applications for the respective interactions were to be submitted by 18 August 2026.

Employee and Pensioner Representations

The Commission invited employees, pensioners, associations, unions, Ministries, Departments and other eligible stakeholders to submit their memoranda and representations through its prescribed online process. The final date for submission was extended to 15 June 2026, and the Commission has stated that the submission window is now closed.

8th CPC Questionnaire – Public Responses

The Commission also sought views and inputs through an 18-question questionnaire hosted on the MyGov platform. Responses were invited from serving employees, pensioners, associations, unions, Ministries, Departments, researchers, academicians and other categories of stakeholders. The response window ran from 5 February 2026 to 31 March 2026 and is now closed.

Departmental Data Submission

The 8th CPC has also established an online data portal for collecting the extensive information required from Ministries, Departments and organisations. The official portal specified 30 June 2026 as the last date for submission of the required data and stated that physical data, hard copies or submissions by email would not be entertained.

What Happens Next?

The Commission’s ongoing work includes examination of the information and representations received, consultations with stakeholders and further regional and departmental interactions. The official website continues to publish its consultation calendar and new notices. Therefore, employees and pensioners should rely on official 8th CPC notifications and releases rather than treating proposed fitment factors, salary increases or pension revisions circulating on social media as final decisions.

Fitment Factor and Salary Increase – No Final Recommendation Yet

The fitment factor, revised pay matrix, salary increase and pension revision cannot presently be treated as final figures merely because various employee organisations or individuals have submitted demands or estimates. The 8th CPC is still undertaking its examination and consultation process. Any final recommendation will have to come through the Commission’s report and the subsequent decision of the Government.

8th Pay Commission: What Central Government Employees and Pensioners Should Watch

  • At present, the most important developments to watch are the Commission’s regional consultations, stakeholder representations, examination of departmental data and eventual recommendations on pay, allowances and retirement benefits. StaffCorner.in will update this page when the Commission publishes significant official developments. Readers should distinguish between official 8th CPC announcements, demands submitted by employee organisations, and unofficial salary or fitment-factor estimates circulating online.
